Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP)

An Intergovernmental & Autonomous Organization; Established in 1979, Mandated for Promoting & Strengthening Integrated Rural Development Systems for 15 Asia-Pacific Countries; Namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, IR Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand & Vietnam.
In 2021, the Governing Council of CIRDAP approved the establishment of the Aziz-Ul Haq Rural Development Medal in memory of the late Mr. Aziz-Ul Haq, the first Director of CIRDAP and the Former Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Bangladesh. The Aziz-Ul Haq Rural Development Medal recognizes an individual or organization for outstanding achievements and contributions to integrated rural development for improving livelihoods, reducing poverty and increasing the food security of rural people in Asia and the Pacific Region and for contributions to CIRDAP.
The founder of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Aziz-Ul Haq passed away in September 2002. Mr. Haq was an architect of rural development, a meritorious government servant, and a veteran Rotarian. A thinker, philosopher and guide to many persons, he was also a good planner, administrator, organizer and policymaker. He organized village people of Cumilla to adopt innovative projects to increase yield of crop and enhance income. He helped promote self-help movement with self-management and self-reliance principles through rural cooperatives. He was instrumental in establishing Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) in Cumilla, Bangladesh.

2022Mr. Aziz-ul Haq (1979-1984), (Bangladesh):
In recognition as a founder of CIRDAP. He was instrumental in establishing CIRDAP in Cumilla, Bangladesh and a dynamic leader in administrating works and programmes at CIRDAP.

2022Mr. ATM Shamsul Haque (1984-1992), Bangladesh:
In recognition of his leadership to mobilise substantial funds for CIRDAP and made the Centre known to the international community through implementation of a large number of projects. He started the Asia-Pacific Journal of Rural Development (APJORD) as well as introduced the CIRDAP monogramme and flag. He instrumented in having the Ministers in charge of Rural Development of CIRDAP Member Countries as members of the CIRDAP Governing Council.

2022Dr. A.V.S. Reddy (1996-2000), India:
In recognition of his initiative on introducing internship for students and IRD scholars at CIRDAP. He put his efforts for mobilising funds for the projects, increasing the number of memberships, formulating a regional network on disaster management, and making CIRDAP as an international resource centre for IRD Experts and development practitioners.

2022Dr. Mya Maung (2000-2004), Myanmar:
In recognition of his contribution to CIRDAP by strengthening communication mechanism between CIRDAP and CIRDAP Link Institutions through the internet; promoting CIRDAP to become a content partner of IDRC Pan Asia Network, the UN Focal Point institution for PopMap training in the region; one of the Council of Advocates for the World Micro-Credit Campaign; and one of the UNESCAP Network of Centre of Excellence for Human Resource Development and Training.
Medal sent through DHL to his USA residence with his concern. He acknowledged receipt on 25 December 2022.
2022Dr. Durga Prasad Paudyal (2004-2012), Nepal:
In recognition of his contribution to CIRDAP through his outstanding leadership and initiatives by establishing the CIRDAP International Conference Center (CICC) with the support of Bangladesh (Host State) and ICT Center with the support of the Government of India, developing of  a strategic plan entitled “Fresh Look of CIRDAP” and the CIRDAP Evaluation Report 2009, and creating the  Regional Cooperation Fund (RCF) of CIRDAP during his period.
