Brief Biography
Apurba Roy is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Barishal, Bangladesh. Currently, he is a PhD Candidate (Economics) at the Wellington School of Business and Government, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His current research focuses on the economics of extreme weather events. He graduated from Khulna University, Bangladesh with a Bachelor and Master’s (Thesis) Degree with distinction majoring in Economics. He was awarded a Chancellor Gold Medal and a Prime Minister Gold Medal Award for his excellent academic achievements. He has also served as the Director of Research at the Bangladesh Relief Initiative for Communities in Khulna (BRICK), Virginia, USA.
Field of Interests
Socio-economic impacts of extreme weather events such as cyclones, storms, floods, and rainfall. I have active research engagements in agriculture and rural development, environmental change, and adaptation strategies. I am also interested in investigating the impact of climate change on coastal communities’ livelihoods in the Asia-pacific region.
