Webinar (9 May) held on the Malaysia Rural Development Policy

CIRDAP organized a webinar titled “the Malaysia Rural Development Policy” on 9 May, 2024.The honourable speaker is Ms. Nazlinda binti Zamani, Principal Assistant Secretary, Strategic Planning Division, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Malaysia. The Webinar gave an overview of the Malaysia Rural Development Policy 2030 as well as rural development programmes implemented by Malaysia to achieve the target set in RDP 2030 and SDG 2030.  The Rural Development Policy 2030 (RDP 2030) has summarised the “Prosperous, Inclusive, and Sustainable Rural Living” vision as the main agenda of the rural development approach in Malaysia by 2030. The “Prosperous Rural Living” vision reflects the Government of Malaysia’s aspiration to ensure rural communities have access to infrastructure and social amenities comparable to urban communities. Furthermore, the Government of Malaysia envisage there will be additional jobs and business opportunities in the rural areas that can increase the income and well-being of the rural communities.  RDP 2030 was launched in 2019 and consists of 10 thrusts, 33 policy statements and 88 strategies. Each thrust is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 to ensure that the target of SDG will be achieved through the implementation of RDP 2030.  To know more the presentation, please click on the below link:             Click here to see the presentation

CIRDAP organized a Webinar on Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS)

Yesterday (22nd April), CIRDAP organized a webinar titled “The Role of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) in the Integrated Sustainable Agricultural, Rural and Food Tourism Development”. The presentation was made by Associate Professor Dr. Ali KianiRad, Director General (Head), Agricultural Planning, Economic and Rural Development Research Institute (APERDI), Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ), Islamic Republic of Iran. The honorable speaker talked about unique agricultural systems which contributes to the integrated rural development. Condolence from the Director General of CIRDAP for the late Dr. Cecep Effendi

It was with great sadness to learn that Dr. Cecep Effendi, the former director general of CIRDAP (2012- 2016) passed away peacefully on 12 April, 2024 at 17:50 hrs. Indonesian Western time in Pasar Rebo Hospital, East Jakarta, Indonesia.إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَDr. Effendi is left behind his wife Mrs. Sri Rahayu, and a son Mr Ilham Akbar. The funeral will be held approximately today (13 April) at 10:00 hrs. Indonesian Western Time in Jakarta.On behalf of H.E. the Chairman of the Governing Council of CIRDAP, and the CIRDAP Secretariat, we would like to express our sincere condolences to his family. Dr. Effendi’s exemplary leadership was recognized internationally with the Aziz Ul Haq Rural Development Medal bestowed upon him by CIRDAP in 2022. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy of dedication to integrated rural development will forever remain an inspiration with us all. We, the staff of the CIRDAP Secretariat would like to pay tribute to him for his leadership and invaluable contributions to CIRDAP which have paved the way for today’s CIRDAP and to rural development for improving the livelihoods and economic development of rural communities. CIRDAP organized webinar on “Empirical and Qualitative Study of Nutrition Security in India”

CIRDAP organized an important and useful webinar titled “Empirical and Qualitative Study of Nutrition Security in India” on 4th April, 2024. Dr. Ruchira Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor & Head in-Charge, National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD-PR), Delhi Branch, India presented briefly on this research.  The presentation is a synthesis of quantitative and qualitative evidence on the four pillars of nutrition/food security in India (availability, access, utilization and stability). While there are growing concerns around food and nutrition insecurity, there are also cconcerns on shifting focus from barriers to food access and equity (demand side barriers) to technical solutions such as creating nutrition sensitive agro-ecological systems or changing production pattern (supply-side barriers).  To understanding the changes in India’s food security conditions is required this presentation Discussed the production, consumption and social protection using existing qualitative and quantitative evidences. Showed the evidence of changing Source and Composition of Indian Household Level consumption: Using the NSSO data from 1993-2011 this presentation will show that there has been a structural shift in India’s food access conditions and the shift is visible for both composition of diet as well as source of food Explored the intersection of this structural shift with other social/demographic indicators To know more about the presentation, please see the link below:Click Here
