Brief Biography

I am Dr. Yogendra Kumar Karki, Agricultural Economist and Former Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Government of Nepal. Currently, I serve as President of the Nepal Agriculture Economics Society, Chairman of the Nepal Farmers Advisory Council, and Vice President of the International Society of Extension Education. I hold a PhD and Master’s in Agriculture Economics, a Master’s in Public Administration, and a B.Sc. in Agriculture. With 32 years in the Agriculture Ministry and a decade managing ADB and World Bank projects as Project Director, I’ve represented Nepal in international forums like IFAD, FAO, WB, and ADB as a delegate, contributed to project design, visited 72 countries, presented on agriculture policy and food security, and published widely. Honored with Gorkha Dakshinbahu by the then King, Suprabal Jana Sewa Shree Manpadabi by Nepal’s President, and dozens of other awards, I’ve significantly contributed to agricultural development and policy.

Field of Interests

My research interests lie in the fields of agricultural production, processing,
and marketing, with a particular focus on the value chain of key
commodities. I have extensive experience conducting and advising on
studies related to climate, rural development through income generating,
crops and livestock, including production systems, processing technologies,
and market dynamics. In these capacities, I have served as an advisor, team
leader, and team member across various projects. Additionally, I have
contributed significantly to academic advancement by guiding numerous
MSc and PhD students as a member of their advisory committees. My work
emphasizes sustainable practices and market-driven approaches to enhance
agricultural productivity and value chain development.
