CIRDAP is seeking sealed quotations from reputed Bangladeshi Interior design firms to design and implement, make effective layout plans, procure furniture and decorate interior space for CIRDAP digital library. The interior firm/ contractor must have adequate qualification and experience of execution of similar interior decoration works in commercial / office buildings. Experience of working with international organization will be an added advantage. Please submit the proposal along with i) cover letter ii) a portfolio in support of the qualification and experience of the contractor iii) Certificate of completion of same works iv) CV of the architect , designer, site in charge to be engaged with the project v) Design ( both 3D and layout plan vi) proposed timeline with a Gantt chart vii) Financial proposal to be submitted on or before 30th June, 2018 by 14:30 Hour , to CIRDAP Head office tender box, 17, Topkhana road, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Photo: DEPTFO Fiji’s strength, much like China’s, lies in the rural agricultural sector, says the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo. Mr Qian was attending a Rural Development Symposium yesterday in Nadi, contributing to discussions with various other stakeholders on how to boost rural development in Fiji. Mr Qian said the Fijian Government’s five-year and 20-year National Development Plan consisted of two prongs: ‘Inclusive social-economic development” and “transforming strategic thrusts.’ He said Chinese President Xi Jinping placed great importance on rural issues such as agriculture. “He pointed out that if China wants to be strong, agriculture must be strong, if China wants to be beautiful, the country side must be beautiful and If China wants to get rich, the farmers must get rich.” Mr Qian related these points to the current progression and the attitude that must be driven to Fiji’s rural agricultural sector. Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Meleti Bainimarama said the theme was “a reflection of the ministry’s vision to assist the rural populace in improving their livelihoods, living standards and create an enabling environment for effective governance. “It is something that goes hand in hand with the government’s 20-year development plan and the ministry’s three-year strategic plan,” Mr Bainimarama said. He said they would be using the symposium as a platform to get feedback from various stakeholders. He said ideas on how better roads could be built, getting better regional water plans, accessing electricity and simplifying accessibility for members of the public to these basic services were discussed. Group Photograph of the TC-33 Delegates and Observers The thirty-third Meeting of the CIRDAP Technical Committee (TC-33) was held on 18th and 19th April 2018 at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi, Fiji Islands. The Technical Committee is CIRDAP’s policy body that provides professional inputs and assists in the implementation of the Centre’s programmes and projects in the member countries. The meeting was attended by delegates from its 14 Member Countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, and including Observers from the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF), the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Rajiv Ghandhi National Institute for Youth Development (RGNIYD) and the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bangladesh The Integrated Rural Development expert for CIRDAP, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed; Dr Hyung Gun Kim from the Korean Legal Research Institute (KLRI), and Dr. Nur Ahmed Khondakar from FAO were also in attendance. The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, Disaster Management, and Meteorological Services, Fiji’s link Ministry to CIRDAP, hosted the meeting on behalf of the Government of Fiji. Hon. Joeli Cawaki, the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Disaster Management, and Meteorological Services, inaugurated the Meeting as chief guest. Speaking at the inauguration of the meeting, Assistant Minister Cawaki emphasized on the change from the ‘business as usual’ way of doing things to an innovative approach to rural development. Delegates to the meeting were acknowledged with a traditional welcome ceremony which was conducted by the staff of the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Western, Fiji Island. Later the Business Session, began with outgoing TC-32 Chairperson, Dr Mizanur Rahiman, Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. Fiji Delegate Mr. Meleti Bainimarama, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Fiji Islands, was elected as the Chairperson of CIRDAP Technical Committee. In acknowledging the leadership and services of the outgoing TC-32 Chairperson, the TC-33 Chairperson presented a miniature Fijian Tanoa, representing the Talanoa Dialogue concept. The committee then discussed the meeting agenda on various programmatic issues. The meeting concluded with a field trip to Suva, Fiji. Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) and Ministry of Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Government of the Republic of Fiji has organised the Rural Development Symposium 2018 in Nadi, Fiji, from 16th to 17th April, 2018. The symposium was opened by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji, Qian Bo. Over 100 participants and experts from key government agencies and stakeholders attended the meeting to take part in the symposium to provide their valuable input in the development of Rural Development policy. Representative from other thirteen CIRDAP member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the meeting. Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management of Government of the Republic of the Fiji, Mr. Meleti Bainimarama said that the objective of the symposium is to brainstorm, get ideas and views from stakeholders on how they could better serve the rural population. The symposium was comprised of 5 sessions focused on the flowing thematic areas: Transforming the Rural Economy; Connectivity in ICT; Financial Inclusion and Economic Empowerment, Governance in Rural Development; and Rural Development and Emerging Issues.
