Expression of Interest (EOI): AI Based Corporate Video for CIRDAP

The Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) invites Expression of Interest (EOI) from qualified and experienced video production companies, organizations, digital media firms, marketing agencies, or other relevant organizations for the development of a 4–5-minute corporate video. The EOI can be submitted by any International Organization or companies. Background CIRDAP intends to produce a high-quality corporate video similar to those developed by reputed International, Autonomous and regional organizations. The video will showcase CIRDAP’s mission, achievements, programs, and impact across member countries. All necessary background materials, including photographs, short video footage, written content, and interviews (Ex. Director General)—will be provided by CIRDAP. The video is expected to be developed using advanced and sophisticated AI-based platforms/tools, ensuring modern, engaging, and visually compelling output. The Special (Virtual) Technical Committee (TC) meeting

The Special (virtual) Meeting of the Technical Committee (TC) was held on 21st December, 2023. The TC members and their representatives from 11 CIRDAP member countries (except Afghanistan, Lao PDR, Nepal, and Vietnam) attended the meeting. The Special TC meeting started with a recorded speech from the distinguished Chair of the Technical Committee (TC-38), Mr. Anosack Phengthimmavong, Deputy Director General, Department of Rural Development (DRD), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) of Lao PDR. In his message, Mr. Anosack Phengthimmavong expressed that because of another urgent meeting, he would not be able to attend the TC meeting and he welcomed all the TC members/ representatives to the meeting. The Chair informed that the TC members had agreed in the 38th Technical Committee (TC – 38) meeting (held on 3-5 October 2023 in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR) to organize a special (virtual) meeting on 21st December 2023 for further discussions on Agenda 10 & Agenda 11 of TC 38. He added that the agenda (others) “Proposed Thematic Topics for Rural Development Report 2025” would be discussed at this special (virtual) TC meeting.

CIRDAP to work with PIDF for resilient Pacific

CIRDAP will strengthen its partnership with Pacific Island Development Forum (PIDF) to promote rural development through regional cooperation among the Asia-Pacific Countries. Director General of CIRADP Mr. Tevita G. Boseiwaqa Taginavulau, expressed CIRDAP’s commitment to work with regional organisations including PIDF in the mutual areas of interest during the First PIDF Conference held in Nadi, Fiji on 29 July, 2019. The conference with a theme of “Strengthening South-South Cooperation for a Resilient Pacific” has explored the ways of leveraging the opportunities provided by South-South cooperation to build horizontal and inclusive relationships that add complementary value to the development agenda in the Pacific. The Conference, which was organised by Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF), has been attended by leaders from the Pacific countries, Representatives of private sector, NGOs, multilateral agencies, international and regional organizations. DG CIRDAP also moderated a plenary Session on ‘South-South Cooperation for the blue and green economy – Implementation and Financing’. Discussants of the session discussed about the public and private engagement strategies that can be harnessed to derive maximum benefits from the blue/green economy, while supporting community resilience. CIRDAP is trying to reach out other Pacific countries to join CIRDAP in its effort for inclusive and sustainable rural development in the Asia-pacific region.

The 34 Meeting of CIRDAP Technical Committee held in India

The Thirty fourth meeting of the CIRDAP Technical Committee (TC-34) was held on 27-28th June, 2019 at the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR) in Hyderabad, India. Delegates from all CIRDAP Member Countries (CMCs) except Pakistan attended the Meeting. Observers and Representatives of CIRDAPs key development partners were also present during the inaugural and technical session. The inaugural session was held on 26th June 2019 at 11:30 am with the distinguished presence of guests and delegates. The speech of Chief Guest H.E. Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Honourable Union Minister, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India was delivered by Dr. W. R. Reddy, Director General of NIRD&PR. In his speech, the Minister conveyed, “We, the members of CIRDAP countries, with a combined population of 2,549 million, account for 34 per cent of global population. We, with our activities, will be impacting a combined rural population of 1,539 million in CIRDAP member countries”. The Director General of CIRDAP Mr. Tevita G. Botswana Taginavulau, thanked NIRDPR, Ministry of Rural Development and Government of India (GoI) for hosting the TC meeting mentioning that, “Government of India has shown us the way how a member country can be a good team player in promoting regional cooperation amongst CIRDAP Member Countries within its means – an expression of trust, sharing and caring, and compassion especially with regards to CMCs with smaller economy”. Dr. W.R. Reddy, Director General of NIRDPR welcomed the delegates and reassured India’s commitment to continue support towards CIRDAP. “NIRDPR is making a constant effort to innovate and reach out to a large number of functionaries. Innovative initiatives like operationalizing ‘A-VIEW’ will go a long way in reaching the large number of functionaries across the country” he added. Mr. Meleti Bainimarama the former Chairperson of the Technical Committee and Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Rural Development, Government of Fiji highlighted the importance of collaboration stating that “It can never be stressed enough to member countries how imperative it is that we work together collaboratively to achieve the objectives of the establishment of CIRDAP. As member countries, we must not lose sight of CIRDAP’s vision of sustainable integrated rural development in Asia Pacific Region.” Eng. Wassfi Hassan El-Sreihin, Secretary General of African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), Mr. Ravi Shankar Aisola, former Indian Ambassador to Lao PDR, Ms. Leena Johri, Joint Secretary, Department of Rural Development, GoI, MS. Radhika Rastogi, Deputy Director General of NIRD&PR were also spoke on the occasion as guests. After the programme, the CIRDAP National Sub-Centre was ceremoniously inaugurated at the NIRD&PR campus in Hyderabad, India and tree saplings were planted marking the occasion.

GIS Training for young professionals

CIRDAP has organized a Basic Training on GIS for student and professionals. The course was uniquely designed by technical experts to ensure the meaningful skill development for the participants so that they can make the best use of the latest Geospatial Information System technologies in their professional fields. Geospatial technology broadly includes mapping and surveying techniques, remote sensing, photogrammetry, cartography, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). With its unique ability for acquisition, integration, and analysis of geographically-referenced spatial information, this technology has in recent times been recognized as an effective tool for planning, management, and decision making locally and globally. This introductory Eight days training course designed to give thorough understanding of Remote Sensing, Image Interpretation, Digital Image processing, GIS, and various applications in their relevant field. The training included theoretical introduction of Geospatial, practical hands-on Data Collection using MDC, GPS, DGPS, Total Station, and computer work, emphasizing QGIS and Arc Map specific applications. A total of thirteen participants from different Backgrounds shortlisted and attended the entire training. The eight-day training was intense and thorough. The team of facilitators engaged to deliver the training implemented the program with dedication and passion. Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) in India

Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) 17th batch is going to start from June’2019. It’s a one-year residential course conducted by National Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad, India. CIRDAP is offering some slots of PGDRDM programme for its member countries sponsored by MoRD, Govt of India to develop a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development Management Professionals in CMCs. Nominations are expected from CIRDAP member countries. Interested organisations (Government/Non-Government/Autonomous bodies related to rural development) can nominate suitable candidates according to eligibility criteria and send nomination to National Coordinators in their respective countries and cc to training@cirdap.org.
