Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) in India

Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM) 17th batch is going to start from June’2019. It’s a one-year residential course conducted by National Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad, India. CIRDAP is offering some slots of PGDRDM programme for its member countries sponsored by MoRD, Govt of India to develop a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development Management Professionals in CMCs. Nominations are expected from CIRDAP member countries. Interested organisations (Government/Non-Government/Autonomous bodies related to rural development) can nominate suitable candidates according to eligibility criteria and send nomination to National Coordinators in their respective countries and cc to training@cirdap.org. List of the National Coordinators is available in this link List of CIRDAP National Coordinators. National Coordinators will send the nomination to CIRDAP. Basic Course on GIS and its Applications

CIRDAP Centre on Geoinformatics Applications for Rural Development (CGARD) with technical support from National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), India, is offering two batches of Basic Course on GIS and its Applications to be organized on 26 April -23 May, 2019, and 14th July  to 25th July 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The courses are designed for students and professionals who want to make the best use of the latest spatial technologies in their professional fields. Course Objectives The objective of the course is to develop an understanding and competence in, Geo spatial technology. Planning Workshop for CIRDAP National Coordinators Held

The CIRDAP National Coordinators’ Planning Workshop 2019, the first of its kind, was held on 11th-13th March 2019 at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Cumilla, Bangladesh. The key objectives of the workshop were: (i) to provide better understanding of CIRDAP system and processes; (ii) to plan and propose CIRDAP biannual programme 2020-2021 for the Policy bodies (Governing Council, Executive Committee, Technical Committee) consideration; (iii) to strengthen the management of programme activities; and (iv) to strengthen Networking amongst the Secretariat, CIRDAP member countries, their rural development Link Institutes and other development partners. The workshop was attended by Coordinators or Coordinator’s Representative of all CIRDAP Member countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Additionally, observers from the member countries and representatives from partner organisations also attended the workshop. The meeting started with an Inaugural Ceremony on 10th March 2019. Mr. Robert D. Simpson, the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Representative for Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest of programme and inaugurated the ceremony. Noting the involvement of FAO is the establishment of CIRDAP, Mr. Simpson stressed that it is important for CIRDAP to reflect on its activities, progress, and challenges to identify the gaps for the future in order to align with the global changes and move forward together. He suggested that similarity and commonalities among the CMCs to be noted, however, it is to be noted that ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution is not an option. He reiterate that FAO will continue working with CIRDAP and other partners to achieve the common goals. Director General of CIRDAP Mr. Tevita G. Boseiwaqa Taginavulau gave the welcome remarks and stressed upon importance of organising the workshop. As per the Goal one of the CIRDAP’s Strategic Plan 2018-2022 that emphasis upon the need to strengthen coordination on between CIRDAP, the CMCs, CLIs and development partners. CIRDAP Member Countries’ National Coordinators were appointed to act as focal point of coordination between the Secretariat and other Members Countries especially on programme activities. In view of this, CIRDAP organised the Workshop to orient the National Coordinator on CIRDAP porgramme and activities.

National Seminar on Library in the age of Internet held

CIRDAP has organized a national seminar highlighting the importance of library in the age of internet in collaboration with the Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) on Saturday, 23 February 2019 at 2:30 pm at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre (CICC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Marking the “National Library Day” as declared by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the seminar explored how internet can be best utilized in library management and information dissemination. The seminar was attended by librarians, information scientists, and documentalists, researchers, scholars and professional in relevant fields from across Bangladesh. Hon’ble Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Architect Yeafesh Osman will attend as the Chief guests, while Dr. Omar Jah, Vice-Chancellor, IUT and Mr. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, GoB attended the seminar as Special Guests. Director General of CIRDAP Mr. Tevita G. Boseiwaqa Taginavulau chaired the meeting. Mr. M. Monirul Islam Kanok, Librarian, PM Office and Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin, Senior Manager and Head, icddr,b Library will present papers on the theme. Prof. Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Chairman, Dept. of ISLM, DU. Dr. M. Moniruzzaman, National Information Offcier, UNIC & Mr. Golam Mustafa, CEO, Hakkani Publication, Dhaka will attend as discussants. Members of BALID including the Chairman Dr. Mirza Mohd Rezaul Islam will also attend the meeting. It is expected that this seminar will help in capacity building of librarians, information scientists, documentalists and others so that libraries can contribute to knowledge drive social development in Bangladesh. The programme started with welcome speech by Dr. Mirza Mohd Rezaul Islam, Chairman, BALID followed by remarks by Dr. Usharani Boruah (Librarian, CIRDAP) who made a presentation on CIRDAP Highlighting the importance of E-library. Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin (Senior Manager and Head, icddr,b Library) presented a keynote presentation on History and chronological development of library from manual  to Digital/e-library format. Mr. M. Monirul Islam Kanok (Librarian, PM Office) gave an excellent presentation on “why library is important though we have internet” with some real examples. After keynote presentation there was a question & answer session. Afterword, as discussants Prof. Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq (Chairman, Dept. of ISLM, DU) delivered  speech on the importance of E-library and spreading out E-library system everywhere. Mr. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury (Add. Secretary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division, Ministry of Educaiton, Bangladesh) & Mr. Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury (Librarian, Independent University Library, Bangladesh) also discussed on the issue. Then, as Chief guests Dr. Omar Jah, Vice-Chancellor, IUT gave speech. He said about authenticity of information and danger of corrupted knowledge with some examples. Finally, the chair of the meeting Mr. Tevita G. Boseiwaqa Taginavulau, DG, CIRDAP delivered his speech where he explored how library and Internet interacts, complement each other. He stressed the importance of library in the age of internet. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Md. Humayun Kabir the Deputy Librarian, Independent University Library.

Planning Workshop for CIRDAP National Coordinators

CIRDAP is organizing a Planning Workshop for the CIRDAP National Coordinators on 11-13 March 2019 in Cumilla, Bangladesh. The Governing Council (GC -21) meeting in Manila, Philippines in 2017, approved CIRDAP’s Strategic Plan 2018-2022, in which the Secretariat was impressed upon the need to strengthen coordination on between CIRDAP, the CMCs, CLIs and development partners. To reinforce its effort to achieve the Strategic Plan and better coordination, each member countries has appointed a CIRDAP National Coordinator to act as focal point of coordination between the above institutions, especially on programme activities. This planning workshop is intended to bring together National Coordinators of all CIRDAP Member Countries to orient and brainstorm on CIRDAP programme activities for better planning.  The main purpose of the Workshop is for coordinators – (i) to participate in the planning of the revised 2019 programmes and proposed biannual 2020-2021 programmes; (ii) to communicate with the National Coordinators’ (NC) on the system and processes of CIRDAP; and (iii) to provide the opportunity for NCs’ to share their good practices on selected rural development programme(s). It is expected that this workshop will enhance the capacity of the national coordinator and enable them to contribute for sustainable rural development in their respective countries.

Int. Exposure visit on Micro Finance in Bangladesh for Indian Gov. Officials

CIRDAP has organised a 5-day-long exposure visit on Micro Finance in Bangladesh to be held from 27th to 31st January 2019 for a team of Officials from Government of India including from National Bank Staff College (NBSC) and National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) and Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD). The delegates have arrived CIRDAP today and the inaugural program of the exposure visit was held at CIRDAP Headquarter. Mr. Tevita G.
